Do I need to source my own green coffee?
No, we can help with that. All members have access to the Bureaux Connect list — a curated selection of green coffees available to buy by the bag or by the kilogram. This list gives members an opportunity to commit to smaller quantities and a wider variety of coffee. We make sure there is always diversity of origin, process and price point. Equally, you are welcome to source your own green coffee and have it delivered to Bureaux.
How many people can come in to roast under one membership?
Many of our members operate in teams from their cafe. Generally, most members have two staff inducted and roasting regularly. We are happy for you to bring in as many staff members as you need to help you complete your roasts provided all members take part in an induction to get them across the equipment, processes and safety procedures at Bureaux.
Am I locked into a contract if I become a member?
Nope! A standard Bureaux membership is flexible—you pay for the time you use and roast only when you need to.
What if we run out of coffee before our next roasting slot?
If you find that you’re running low on coffee then give us a call and we’ll do our best to fit you into the next available roasting slot.
What happens if I’m sick or can’t make it on my roasting day?
We will do our best to offer you another roasting slot at the next available time. If that’s not possible, we may be able to complete your roast for you so you’re not left without coffee.
Staff change over all the time – do I need to train every new staff member to roast our coffee?
When new staff join your team and become part of your roasting operation we’ll run them through an induction and ensure they are supported and feel confident roasting. Bureaux staff are always on hand to troubleshoot and offer guidance.
How much time does it take to roast coffee?
Using our Probatone 12kg roaster you can comfortably roast 34kg per hour.
What training do you provide?
We offer ongoing one-on-one guidance while all members are roasting and conducting quality control. As your skills, knowledge and experience grow over time, we slowly step back until you feel totally confident to fly solo.
What if I get stuck or have a question while I’m roasting?
Whether you are roasting, making decisions about green coffee or undertaking quality control, we are always on hand to help and support members. There’s no question too big or small—we’re here to help in any way we can.
Will I save money roasting my own coffee?
Most of our members indicate that they save money roasting at Bureaux, but it depends on your circumstances.
When can I expect to have coffee good enough to serve to customers?
All of our members have been able to serve great tasting coffee from their first batch. High quality green coffee, expert guidance, support and the right facilities, all play a part in ensuring you are equipped to roast and serve delicious coffee from day one.
Is there a cancellation fee if I can’t make it in to roast?
We ask members for 24 hours notice if they need to cancel their roasting slot. In the event of a no show we charge a $75 cancellation fee.
What happens if I want to leave Bureaux?
There are no contracts, so simply let us know when you want to finish up.
Where do I store my green coffee, roasted coffee and packaging?
Right here! All of our members get dedicated storage space at our roastery. We’ll accept deliveries on your behalf and store green coffee, packaging and whatever else you might need, so it’s here waiting for you all in one place.
Can you help with storage containers and packaging?
Yes. We have a range of packaging options for sale, we can also direct you to trusted retail packaging suppliers and designers.
How do I pay?
We’ll send you an invoice each week, payable via direct debit.
When can I come in and roast?
You can book a slot to roast from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Do I pay extra for time I spend packing, doing quality control or sampling green coffee?
No, that’s all included in your membership. You only pay for time you spend using the roaster. Everything else is complementary, including the use of cupping and brewing stations, storage spaces, packing benches and meeting rooms.
I need equipment for my cafe. Can I get it through Bureaux?
Yes. Let us know what equipment you’re looking for and we can develop a bespoke membership package that includes equipment.
Some of my staff need barista training. Can they do it at Bureaux?
Yes, we offer two training sessions to members at no extra charge: Fundamentals of Espresso and Fundamentals of Milk. You can organise to have this training delivered at our roastery or your cafe.
